No Mess with 5S, Raytheon Systems and Student of the Year awards

As part of the IOM's activities for Adult Learners Week, Glenrothes College hosted a most successful presentation and awards evening on Wednesday 15th June.

Sort (Seiri) -The first S focuses on eliminating unnecessary items from the workplace.
Set in Order (Seiton) -The second S focuses on efficient and effective storage methods.
Shine (Seiso) - The third S is to thoroughly clean the work area.
Standardise (Seiketsu) - The forth S is concerned with standardising best practice in the office or workshop. Sustain (Shitsuke) - The fifth S is by far the most difficult to implement and achieve. Sustain focuses on defining a new status quo and standard of workplace organisation. A lively question and answer session on the subject of '5S' proved to be of great benefit, especially to those who had no previous experience of the concept.
Having the IOM's Assistant Secretary, Julie Tayler, present was an added bonus. After thanking the speakers on behalf of the Institute, Julie presented awards to the two IOM students who had shown outstanding performance in the past year. Jamie Rowan of Coherent was presented with the award for UK Student of the Year in the Diploma in Production and Inventory Management and Keith Lyall of Plexus was presented with the award for UK Student of the Year in the Introductory Certificate in Operations Management.
