Editorial: The Abridged History of Computerised Planning Systems

In the beginning there were Bill of Materials processors, originally developed by IBM in the 1960’s.

They were simple loop queries that extrapolated the requirements of an assembly and gave a listing of all the parts required to manufacture a predetermined number of the assembly.
