The Human Contribution to the Supply Chain Planning Process: An Exploratory StudyThis article focuses on an often ignored aspect of operations management – the social and organisational perspective. The underlying motivation for the study described here is the theory that businesses have tended to overlook the potential of the human contribution to operations management in general. Here, a novel approach focuses on understanding the interaction between human, organisational and information systems elements of an operations management process.
The key objective of this work is to open a discussion regarding the need for businesses to consider the development of social and organisational (socio), and technical and information systems (technical) perspectives in parallel. By taking this more ‘sociotechnical’ [1][2] approach to operations strategy and management, it is predicted that businesses will be able to develop more responsive, flexible and effective operations processes.
