Branch news: North West: Latest Thinking in Demand ManagementThe evening of 9th December was hosted at Bentley Motors Training Academy in Crewe and chaired by Neil Towers, FIOM.
Around twenty members attended a very interesting and informative presentation given by Derek Thomason MIOM, Director of Sofard Consulting and formerly with LCP and Miebach Logistics. Derek's presentation explored the topic of demand management and included a range of business processes from forecasting, order entry, demand communication and supply planning. It drew on a wealth of operations and supply chain management experience in the construction, food, automotive, chemicals and entertainment sectors. Of particular interest was discussion from the North West businesses at Miebach and Kodak. The presentation included an appreciation of the Competitive Space programme being undertaken at Cranfield University and how that research was being transferred into meaningful applications within different businesses. The presentation was followed by a lively discussion of some of the issues raised in the presentation from an audience representing a wide range of operations management businesses. It was also very encouraging to see a number of small manufacturing businesses at the evening.
