FastTrack Order Fulfilment at Henkel: The PROCHART Approach

With competition forever intensifying in consumer markets, there is increasing pressure on manufacturing businesses to be responsive in markets that demand high levels of variety and low costs. Responsiveness is required both for order fulfilment on current products and for rapid new product introduction.

In such markets, the retailer commonly holds a powerful position, being able to select and deselect suppliers and establish service contracts to suit its needs. The retailers themselves need to drive costs down and they often achieve this by putting pressure on suppliers to make ongoing continuous performance improvements and to handle the difficult trade-offs between responsiveness, inventory holding costs and the associated risks. Nowhere is the need to balance responsiveness and cost more evident than in retail DIY in the UK, where demands for responsiveness are continually increasing whilst margins are continually being driven down.
