Institute news : Study on ‘Challenges in Supply Chain Management 2005’

The Institute of Operations Management, The University of Nottingham Business School, Supply Chain Analytics Ltd and CODESNET, have just launched a study of supply chain challenges for industrial and retail companies operating in Europe.

Supply Chain Management is increasingly a critical business process for many companies, as they seek to meet ever more demanding customer requirements, at lower cost, more quickly and with a supplier base that is increasingly offshore.

  • What are the main challenges that companies are facing in doing this?
  • What areas of the supply chain are companies seeking to make improvements in?
  • What are the common difficulties companies encounter in making major supply chain improvements?

This web-based study seeks to answer these questions to provide a view of the supply chain landscape across Europe in 2005.

Nottingham University Business School is a leading centre for management education in one of the most prominent and popular universities in the United Kingdom. CODESNET is a European network of 15 Universities and Polytechnics focusing on Collaborative Demand and Supply Networks. Supply Chain Analytics Ltd advises companies on improving their supply chains through the application of best practice methods and technologies in visualization and planning.

The study is being promoted by each of the partners via their websites and publications to encourage a high level of participation. All participants in the survey will receive a copy of the final report and will also be offered an invitation to a seminar in early 2006 when the survey results will be formally presented and discussed. The questionnaire phase of the study will commence on 20th June and complete on 31st October 2005 and the study report will be published in early 2006.

The survey can be accessed via the IOM website at:
