Using Lean Techniques to investigate and improve on the effectiveness and efficiency of train maintenance

In common with many rail maintenance businesses goals, the subject of this case study is the improvement of the maintenance practices carried out on trains on behalf of an operating company.

The review project used key initiatives such as “lean tools” and SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) to understand current practices and identify improvements and cost savings.
