Advanced Planning and Scheduling: a provisional definition

‘Advanced Planning and Scheduling’ (APS) means many things to many people. So far, there is little common agreement on what constitutes APS and the Institute’s APS Special Interest Group has been working on a definition to assist members.

Here is the latest version of the definition - we would welcome your comments.

The term Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) encompasses a wide variety of tools and techniques, principally embodied in software systems with many applications in manufacturing and logistics (including the service sector).
