Revised Course - Effective ERP, APS and e-Business Through Re-Engineering the Business Processes

Many MRP II and ERP systems produce disappointing results; APS (Advanced Planning & Scheduling) implementations, although citing many improvements, seldom reach their full potential; and e-businesses fail, not through speed of information, but because of the inability to meet the delivery requirements...

But these are not 'systems' problems. Nobody really believes that the success of companies like Toyota, Honda and Dell is due just to the software they have installed. Yet organisations often expect a new system to be a panacea for all their problems. Unfortunately, implementing an ERP or APS system on top of today's functional organisations only automates the non-value-added activities, it does not remove them. Nor does it tell you how to remove them.

Improving the production and business processes is the key to success and will do more to improve the effectiveness of ERP, APS and e-business than any tweaking of the system. This course will help you understand the world class techniques and principles that have revolutionised manufacturing and are essential to make your IT systems more effective - waste elimination, total quality, employee involvement and a strategic management approach. It will help you to establish the key processes in the Supply Chain, show you how to re-engineer these processes across all areas of the business (Business Process Re-engineering).

'Activity Based Management' (ABM) combines Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and Activity Based Costing (ABC) and with it the organisation is focused on managing the business processes and improving profitability. By costing each of the activities, cost reduction opportunities are identified. With ABM we now have the tools and techniques to make the whole enterprise 'world class'.

This course will provide delegates with a detailed understanding of the key issues involved in re-engineering the business. It will help them understand the role of IT, why systems fail, and how ERP, APS and e-business systems can be made more effective. It is suitable for senior managers and professionals from both manufacturing and service industries. It will be highly participative and include numerous case studies.

This event completely replaces the 'Re-engineering the Business through ABM' course and highlights the need for re-engineering to make effective use of the various enterprise IT supply chain initiatives

The course will next run on 8th June 2000 at the IOM HQ. The course tutor is Don Ralston. For further information, please contact the Institute.
