Business integration

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) is a dynamic business management process in which the company operating plan is updated on a regular monthly or more frequent basis...

It starts with the sales and marketing departments comparing actual demand to the sales plan, assessing the marketplace potential and projecting future demand. The updated demand plan is then communicated to the manufacturing, engineering and finance departments, which offer ways to support and resource it. Any difficulties in supporting the plan are worked out, or the sales plans are altered, in a process that concludes with a formal senior management S&OP meeting.and we are starting to realise that mathematics can make as big an impact on business process management as it has on product design in the past...
