XML: an alternative to EDI

Imagine a world where you can open a document in your web browser that shows a list of suppliers, you click a button next to the name and the document expands to show you the items

requiring delivery, you click on a button next to the item your re interested in and the document expands again to reveal a detailed, timed delivery schedule for the item... Imagine you can go to the source code via the menu/view/source command and expose the data this document is displaying. Imagine that this code is prescribed in such a way that you can extract the data and use it in whatever application you desire. In fact the document describes the data fields with defined names. You can do this now....
