Implementing Technology: The Lessons of the Last 30 Years

Through implementing information technology (IT)over the last thirty years organisations have had their successes and shortcomings in the resulting solutions. As we move to the next generation of technology based solutions, what lessons can be taken from these experiences?... This article does not aim to be prescriptive but to be provocative in some of the areas where there is the opportunity to learn.

‘Learning ’is defined as knowledge or skills acquired through experience or study or by being taught [1 ]. As individuals we are all constantly learning in these ways,and our success can be measured through the targets we set and our resulting abilities. Organisations’ learning ability is dependent upon these individuals, but also the overall capability installed through the paradigm,strategy and management. Instilling a culture that encourages innovation and learning increases the opportunities for the organisation to develop....
