Integrating APS And ERP

Enterprise and Resource Planning Systems (ERP) are the common place information system solution for most organisations who manufacture or process goods for sale. The model for these systems has its origins in the mass manufacturing techniques widely used 20 or more years ago. Following the introduction of Just in Time practises, this older model of planning has become increasingly ineffective...

For example the Material Requirements Planning features of an ERP system works in daily time buckets and assumes that capacity to manufacture is infinite. To overcome these limitations Advanced Planning and Scheduling solutions (APS) have been developed and these can replace much of the Manufacturing Resource Planning activities that ERPprovides in a now inadequate way. APS solutions, are destined to replace the current planning modules of ERP solutions as the benefits they offer reap paybacks of around 12 weeks or so. This return will be hard to resist however, the use of an APS solution requires integration with the legacy ERP solution...
