World's Largest Virtual Factory Launch

The ROME Project was launched successfully to an audience of over 130 industrialists and academics on Tuesday, 3rd April at the University of Huddersfield...

Peter Catton, the Managing Director of ROMEtex, the world's largest producer of virtual lawnmowers led the tour of his factory and highlighted the improvements in profitability, stock turn and customer service that had been achieved through the use of the ROME programme to educate the staff in operations management across their supply chain. A full report on the visit will be carried in the June issue of Control.

At the end of the visit, the first Certificates in Operations Management were awarded by the Institute's Chairman, Frank Berkovits, to those from the pilot group who completed the ROME course and were successful in the examination.

Further extremely successful tours have been conducted for large audiances in Coventry, Chesham and Bristol.

Other ROME Tour Dates
For our members north of the border, a tour of ROMEtex, the worlds' largest virtual lawnmower factory will be held on Thursday, 31st May at Glenrothes College. All are welcome to attend and members in Scotland will receive a mailing about this in the near future but if you would like details now, please send an email to rome@iomnet.org.uk.

A further tour is being arranged for the North East in June - watch the IOM website for details.

Why not bring your MD or Training Manager along to learn more about how ROME can help your company?

ROME Demo Disk
If you don't get the opportunity to come on one of the tours then please do take the time to have a look at the demo disk which should have arrived just before this issue of Control. On the demo, you can roam around the Assembly area of the ROMEtex factory and look at some sample pages from the ROME handbook which links to the factory.

Can you offer a talk or a visit?
The Institute's Branches and SIGs are always looking for interesting visits and speakers. Perhaps your company would be prepared to host a visit either during the day or in an evening? Alternatively, you may like to offer a talk on a topic of interest to other members? If so, please contact either your local Branch / SIG Contact (see diary page) or the General Secretary at the Institute by letter, fax or email (iom@iomnet.org.uk).
