Visit to Novartis PharmaceuticalsBranch news Org) Novartis intro) On 15th March 2001 a large audience heard in a presentation by Steve Fuller and Caroline how Novartis was starting to use sophisticated warehouse management technology, dovetailed with its planning system, to increase efficiency, reduce errors and build flexibility into its operations... The Horsham site has seen several changes of ownership and product range over the last 20 years. It serves more than 100 countries with tablets, capsules, transdermal patches, asthma preparations and injections in more than 700 presentations. At the centre of the changes has been a new warehouse management system that will enable Novartis to develop further use of bar coding to enhance control and management information. Supported by other changes to ways of working, the integration of IT systems has yielded accurate and reproducible production schedules, the ability to evaluate changes within the factory and increased visibility of wasted resources. Naturally, this was not achieved without some pain and the realisation of short-comings in some areas over the course of a five month implementation. Now Novartis can see the way forward to roll out the processes to all their suppliers though some more mountains were there for the climbing.
And they still have the joy of a global SAP implementation to look forward to. Let joy be unconfined.
The Branches wish to thank Steve and Caroline for an excellent presentation that included the ups and downs they faced, some of the frustration and the smell of success.
