Performance Measurement and the SME Sector

Whilst we are all well aware of the challenges facing the manufacturing sector and it's major players, there are other sectors where the constantly changing business and market environment provide, arguably, an even greater threat.

The SME sector, a large and growing element of all economies, is one of the most fluid and active in terms both of growth and failure rates. It is also one of the most competitive, and it also represents a substantial proportion of overall economic activity. It can be seen as the 'nursery' sector, through which new major companies often emerge. It needs all the help and encouragement it can get to ensure that it realises its potential. As part of this it needs to be at the forefront in the use of modern management tools and techniques.
