From Making Things to Delivering Solutions: a new Role for Manufacturing

Professor Daniel Jones is responsible for some of the most original thinking in the last decade, with the phenomenal success of his two books, "The Machine that Changed the World "and "Lean Thinking ".

The application of Lean techniques has transformed service levels and customer expectations, not only in manufacturing industry but also in service sectors such as finance and government. In his latest research, he develops he hinking that the new role for manufacturing is to progress from the focus on making products to developing and delivering solutions for the customer.

Customers are expecting perfect fulfilment, ie.perfect quality, on time, and at falling cost over time. Increasingly they are also demanding tailor made solutions with no problems and with the facility to enhance or upgrade that solution. In the meantime the supplier is constantly having to eliminate waste, cost and inefficiencies from the value streams.

This event gives you the opportunity not only to hear Professor Daniel Jones expound his thoughts on the next decade for solution providers, but also to experience some case studies from people who are actively involved in delivering solutions in a wide range of industries. In addition, participants can hear what he DTI is doing to support manufacturing industry in its quest to deliver solutions.
