Advanced Planning & Scheduling systems (APS) - essential or nice-to-have?

Addresses in simple terms, the why, what and where of APS and reviews the potential strengths and weaknesses of the different types of APS solutions that have been developed. Probably the most popular jargon term currently in use in the ERP and supply chain solutions marketplace is 'APS' - an acronym now usually interpreted as meaning ' Advanced Planning and Scheduling Systems'. Although the term APS and the business application solutions to which it refers have been with us for many years, it is really only in the last three or four years that its use (and some may feel its abuse) has grown to the current levels.
