Desperately seeking sponsorsInstitute member and manufacturing consultant Austen Jones is embarking on the challenge of a lifetime. In November 1999 he will be taking part in an awesome 350km bike ride from the foothill villages of the Himalayas to the shores of the Ganges, to raise much needed funds for people with learning disabilities... Austen will join a group of around 100 cyclists who will all ride together through the often mountainous terrain. The group will begin and end their challenging ride in India's bustling capital, Delhi.
Austen said "I'm now trying to get fit for the ride, and am already clocking up the miles on and off-road as well as at home on an exercise bike that has been kindly loaned to me by Delta Fitness Products of Bradford. Fitness isn't my only goal, though. With a target of £2,500, fundraising will also be a big part of the challenge."
Money raised by Austen will go towards Mencap's vital work supporting people with learning disabilities, their families and carers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Austen's fundraising efforts will help provide life-changing opportunities for children and adults with learning disabilities in education, employment, housing and leisure.
